What is a Custom Code?
A Custom Code is a quick and effective way to communicate an important message to anyone who visits your Eleyo site. A Custom Code may be activated for emergencies, district-wide technical issues, registration announcements, etc. Staff with the correct permissions can build a Custom Code message that will be displayed at the top of most public-facing Eleyo pages including the Welcome Page, any custom subpages and all enrollment pages. It is not displayed when creating a profile or account online, when adding or managing relationships, or in the checkout/cart. The Custom Code message will stay displayed until it is manually removed by staff.
Additionally, the Custom Code field can be use for analytics of the Welcome page. Any staff who need access to the data would need to set up their own account with Google Analytics or another analytics platform (such as Mixpanel, Adobe Analytics, HubSpot, Open Web Analytics, etc.).
Once the analytics platform details have been completed, an IT/technology team can add the integration code for the platform directly into the Custom Code field within your Eleyo Admin site.
Adding a Custom Code
- Point to System.
- Select System Preferences
- On the left, select Online.
- Type a message into the Custom Code box.
- Select Save.
Important Note: The message entered as the Custom Code will immediately appear on your public Eleyo pages.
Formatting a Custom Code
It can be helpful to use a larger font size and/or a different background color to ensure the message stands out. To add formatting to the Custom Code, the text must be entered as HTML. This can be accomplished using a WYSIWYG editor, which is available within a Question Template. Use the following to access the Editor and create HTML
- Point to System
- Select Question Templates
- Select Add Template.
- Select Add Question then select Information Only (no answer) question type.
- Using the tools in the Editor, create the desired message including all formatting (bold, italics, size, centering, etc).
- Once the message looks as desired, select the HTML tool with the <> icon on the left to change the text to reflect HTML code.
- Copy all of the HTML code.
- Navigate to System > System Preferences > Online.
- Paste the code in the Custom Code field.
- Select Save.
Important Note: The message will immediately appear on your public Eleyo pages.
If it is helpful, you can save this template to generate the HTML code for future messages when using the Custom Code feature. In order to do this, you have to include at least one answerable question within the template in addition to the Information Only (no answer) question. For example, you could add a Single Selection question or a Yes/No question as shown in the example below. Once there are at least 2 questions, enter a Name for the template (ie Custom Code Creator, Banner Creator) then select Create at the bottom.
