Chrome
Introduction to Google Translate
Google Translate is a powerful tool that allows users to translate web pages, text, and speech into over 100 languages. By using the Google Translate extension within the Chrome browser, users can easily translate entire web pages to their preferred language, enhancing their browsing experience and accessibility.
Installing the Google Translate Extension
To use Google Translate in Chrome, you need to install the extension from the ChromeWebStore. Once installed, a Google Translate icon will appear in your browser toolbar.
Using the Google Translate Translation Extension
- Open Chrome Browser: Navigate to the desired web page.
- Access the extension: In the upper-right corner of the window, select the

- Translate the Page: Select Translate and choose your desired language in the pop-up window
Change the default language in your Internet browser Google Chrome
- Open Chrome Browser
- In the upper-right corner of the window, select the

- Click Settings in the drop-down menu.
- On the Settings window, in the left navigation menu, select Languages.
- On the right side of the Settings window, select the Language option.
- Click the Add Languages link.
- In the Add languages pop-up window, click the checkbox next to one or more languages, and select the Add button. You can also search for languages using the search field in the upper-right corner.
- Your newly selected languages should appear in the Language section. To choose one, click the
icon to the right of the language and check the box next to Display Google Chrome in this language.
9. Click the Relaunch button, or close and reopen your Chrome browser to display the new language.
Firefox
Firefox has added translation features that allow users to browse the web in their preferred language. Users will need to have Firefox version 118 or newer to have options for translation.
Translate the full page
- Open Firefox web browser and select the translation icon in the toolbar or select Translate page from the menu.
- Firefox will detect the page language automatically for the “Translate from” section of the top dropdown menu. You may manually change it as well.
- Select your desired translation language from the bottom dropdown menu.
- Click Translate to translate the entire page

Safari
Safari has translation options available within their web browser.
- Open the Safari App on Mac
- Navigate to the webpage you want to translate. If the webpage can be translated, the Smart Search field will display the Translate Icon
- Click on the Translate Icon and choose your preferred language.
Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge automatically prompts for translation if the webpage shows as a different language than your preferred languages within the Edge Settings. A language is considered foreign if it is not included in the Preferred Languages list in Settings. To add or remove languages from the list, in Microsoft Edge, go to Settings and more > Settings > Languages.
If settings have not been adjusted correctly, a user is able to manually translate a webpage by following the steps provided below.
- Select the translate icon in the Address bar
- In the Translate to menu, select your preferred language.
- Select Translate.
Mobile Devices
Google Chrome, Firefox, and Edge on mobile devices have the option to translate webpages by selecting Settings from the Browser App, and select Translate.
Safari on Mobile has a highlighted text translate option but an extension can be downloaded to have full webpages Translated.
- Open App Store on your iPhone or iPad
- Search for “Website Translator”

3. Open app and select the preferred language
4. Close the Translation app and open Safari
5. From Safari webpage, tap on Share and scroll down to select Translate
6. Safari will then open within the Translator Extension App with your preferred language.
